Adriana Haro is a Researcher at the University of Newcastle, affiliated with the School of Humanities, Creative Industries and Social Sciences, and serves as a Project Officer at the Centre of Excellence for Equity in Higher Education. She holds a PhD in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Newcastle, a Master of Science from Cardiff University, and a Bachelor of Arts from San Francisco State University. Her research focuses on queer, feminist, and critical race theory, particularly exploring the experiences of young Latinx men navigating masculinities and ethnic identity in Australia. She employs creative/visual methods and qualitative approaches in youth studies.
Key achievements include the 2021 Global Voices Scholarship and participation as an Australian youth delegate to the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Her policy work emphasizes embedding student/staff survivor voices in institutional decision-making. She has contributed to research on gender-based violence's impact on higher education access and collaborated on studies about youth debt and consumer credit.
Her publications include analyses of racialized embodiment among queer Latinx youth, gamification of debt, and the sociological impacts of gender-based violence on education. She has been part of interdisciplinary teams addressing youth financial behaviors and equity in higher education.
