Adrian Rodriguez Rivadulla is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Health and Injury and Illness Prevention in Sport, University of Bath, within the Department for Health in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree with research focusing on the application of machine learning to biomechanical analysis of running.
His research interests center on biomechanics and sports science with a particular focus on running analysis. Rivadulla employs advanced machine learning techniques including dimensionality reduction, clustering algorithms, and support vector machines to analyze running technique and fatigue. His work leverages wearable sensor technology to develop practical applications for sports performance and injury prevention, bridging the gap between theoretical biomechanics and real-world athletic applications.
Rivadulla's research has been recognized with prestigious awards including the ISBS New Investigator Award (2023) and finalist positions for the ISB David Winter Young Investigator Award (2021) and another ISBS New Investigator Award (2021).
He developed FootNet, an innovative LSTM neural network algorithm for detecting foot-strike and toe-off events on non-instrumented treadmills using segment and joint kinematics as input. This work demonstrates his expertise in applying deep learning to solve practical problems in sports biomechanics.
