Adrian Oehmen is an Associate Professor in the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Queensland, where he leads research in bioprocess engineering focused on wastewater treatment, resource recovery, and sustainable materials. His work spans multiple subfields including enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR), microbial entrapment, acid mine drainage, polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) production, and metabolic modelling of mixed microbial cultures. With over 100 journal publications and leadership in 30+ research projects, Oehmen holds key roles in the International Water Association (IWA) and serves as Associate Editor for Water Research.
Research Interests include:
- Resource Recovery from Waste/Wastewater
- Biological Nutrient Removal
- Phototrophic Processes for Biopolymer Production
- Greenhouse Gas Mitigation in Wastewater Treatment
- Metabolic Modelling and Process Optimization
His recent publications focus on advanced EBPR systems, microbial community dynamics, and phototrophic biopolymer production, reflecting trends in environmental engineering and sustainable bioprocesses.
