Dr. Adrian Kitai is a Professor and Associate Chair, Graduate in the Department of Engineering Physics at McMaster University's Faculty of Engineering. His research focuses on fundamental luminescent materials, photonics engineering, and smart display systems. He is cross-appointed with the Materials Science & Engineering department.
His work investigates electroluminescence, photoluminescence, and cathodoluminescence in oxide phosphor materials like Zn2SiO4:Mn and Ga2O3:Eu. He has developed novel nanoscale semiconductor devices and sphere-supported thin-film electroluminescent (SSTFEL) technologies, enabling flexible light-emitting sheets with industrial applications.
Research trends from his publications highlight advancements in silicon carbide quantum dots, electroluminescent device physics, and defect engineering in wide-bandgap semiconductors. His projects emphasize optical fiber display technologies and avalanche injection mechanisms for efficient low-voltage systems.
Dr. Kitai teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in nanoscale semiconductor devices and thin film synthesis, including ENGPHYS 4A06 (Engineering Physics Design Project) and MATLS 4LF2 (Thin Film Applications Lab).
He is currently accepting graduate students and leads research initiatives in optoelectronic materials and advanced display systems at McMaster's photonics engineering labs.
