Prof. Adriaan Hofman is a Professor of Education specializing in Higher Education at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, Department of Teaching and Teacher Education. He holds a PhD in Social Sciences from Erasmus University Rotterdam (1993) and has extensive experience in educational governance, international policy, and program development in both developed and developing countries. His work focuses on education systems comparison, teacher effectiveness, urban education, and intercultural learning.
Key roles include Director of the University Education Expertise Centre (UOCG), Rotterdam Institute for Social Policy Research (RISBO), and the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS). He has led projects in Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East, emphasizing educational innovation and capacity building in institutions globally. Hofman's research explores factors influencing academic success, intercultural competencies, and the impact of teaching practices on student outcomes.
Publications span over 150 works, including studies on PhD student success, intercultural group work dynamics, and global teaching competencies. He received the 1994 Erasmus University Research Award and contributed to international initiatives like the IHS and JOMITE program.
