Adri van Duin is a Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Pennsylvania State University and Director of the Materials Computation Center. He is also an IEE Faculty Member and an IEE Fellow. His research focuses on atomistic-scale simulations of chemical reactions, reactive force fields (ReaxFF), quantum chemistry, combustion reactions, interface chemistry, and organic geochemistry. He leads projects such as the 'Accurate Prediction of Soot Emissions and Morphology in Turbulent, Fuel-Flexible Combustors.' His work has been recognized with awards including the title of Distinguished Professor (2021) and IEE Fellow (2024).
Key research interests include developing and applying ReaxFF for materials modeling, studying corrosion mechanisms, and investigating energy storage systems like lithium-ion and zinc-air batteries. His contributions span environmental engineering, solid-state physics, and nanotechnology, with a focus on molecular dynamics simulations and materials characterization.
Recent grants include a $4.5M award for 3D-printed ceramics and a $3M grant for integrated semiconductor research. His collaborations span interdisciplinary teams, and he actively publishes in high-impact journals, contributing to advancements in materials science and energy systems.
