Adnan Ilyas is an Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University within the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, serving as Deputy Head of the Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering discipline since 2024. He holds a BEng (2012), MSc (2013), and PhD (2020) in Electrical Engineering from Heriot-Watt University. His research focuses on energy harvesting systems, MEMS, sensors, and smart integration technologies, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals. He leads roles including Global Chair of the School Discipline Committee and Graduate Apprenticeship Lead. His work emphasizes renewable energy solutions and low-powered device applications.
Education: BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Heriot-Watt, 2012), MSc Renewable Energy (Heriot-Watt, 2013), PhD Electrical Engineering (Heriot-Watt, 2020).
Research interests include energy harvesting methodologies, piezoelectric systems, and smart grid integration. Recent articles explore AR in education and deep learning applications in apprenticeships. He has authored influential studies on raindrop-energy conversion and signal strength algorithms for partial discharge detection.
