Adnan Ahmad

Adnan Ahmad serves as an Associate Research Fellow in Artificial Intelligence at Deakin University's School of Information Technology within the Faculty of Science Engineering and Built Environment. His research focuses on advancing federated learning methodologies, particularly addressing challenges posed by heterogeneous data distributions across decentralized systems.

Dr. Ahmad holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from COMSATS University Islamabad (2017) and recently completed his Ph.D. at Deakin University in July 2024. His doctoral research centered on improving the performance and adaptability of federated learning through novel aggregation techniques that account for statistical heterogeneity in distributed data environments.

His research interests span multiple dimensions of machine learning, with particular emphasis on federated learning systems, distributed machine learning architectures, deep learning applications, and human-centered AI approaches including affective computing and human-machine interaction. His work bridges theoretical foundations with practical implementations for real-world distributed learning scenarios.

Dr. Ahmad's publications in high-impact journals like Pattern Recognition (IF:7.5) and Machine Learning Journal (IF:5.8) demonstrate his contributions to developing robust aggregation methods that address the parameter drift problem in non-IID federated learning environments. His research introduces innovative approaches using Hessian spectral decomposition to create more reliable and efficient federated learning systems.

As an active researcher, he has presented his work at prestigious conferences including ECML-PKDD 2023 and PAKDD 2023, establishing himself as a contributor to the evolving field of distributed machine learning methodologies.
