Dr. Adnan Ahmad Cheema is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Electronic Engineering at Ulster University's School of Engineering, leading the Advanced Wireless Technologies Lab (AWTL). With a PhD from Durham University and prior postdoctoral experience at Durham, he specializes in 6G wireless systems, channel modeling, and quantum machine learning applications.
- Education: PhD (Durham University), MSc (King’s College London), BSc (COMSATS University Islamabad)
- External Roles: Senior IEEE/URSI member, Royal Society International Exchanges Panel member
His research bridges wireless communications and machine learning with a focus on 6G channel modeling, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, and RF-EMF exposure analysis. He has secured over £4.7 million in grants from DSIT, EPSRC, and Innovate UK.
The 15 most recent publications highlight trends in quantum LSTM for wireless channel estimation, mmWave propagation in urban/UAV scenarios, and environmental monitoring via machine learning. These works align with UN SDGs for smart cities and healthcare technology.
- Scientific Recognition
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
- Senior Member IEEE/URSI
As an advisor, he has mentored PhD candidates like Dr. Chi Nguyen and Mr. Kd M Raziul Islam. His lab develops proof-of-concept systems such as '5G in a Box' and advanced channel sounders, contributing to ITU recommendations.
