Adlai Murdoch is a Professor of French and Francophone Studies at The Pennsylvania State University, affiliated with the College of the Liberal Arts. He specializes in Caribbean Cultural Theory, Postcolonial Theory, and Francophone Caribbean literature. His research focuses on migration, diaspora, narrative forms, and cultural identity in the Francophone Caribbean and its diasporas. He holds a Ph.D. in French Literature from Cornell University and has authored monographs such as Creole Identity in the French Caribbean Novel (2001) and Creolizing the Metropole (2012).
His edited volumes include The Struggle of Non-Sovereign Caribbean Territories (2021) and special journal issues like Migrations and Métissages. He currently works on Seizing Diasporic Subjectivity in the Black French Caribbean, exploring revolutionary uprisings from 1791 to 2021. His academic contributions bridge literary analysis with sociopolitical contexts, emphasizing cultural resistance and identity formation.
Prof. Murdoch’s professional roles include editing interdisciplinary works on Francophone geographies, postcolonial aesthetics, and the legacy of figures like Aimé Césaire. His work critically engages with colonial and postcolonial histories, migration narratives, and the intersections of literature, film, and cultural politics.
