Dr. Pai's research bridges evolutionary biology and science education. Her evolutionary studies focus on sexual selection, conflict, and female multiple mating behavior using red flour beetles (Tribolium castaneum) as a model system. Her science education work examines innovative curriculum and pedagogy impacts on student engagement.
Her publications (2005) include studies on parasitism resistance trade-offs in Genetics and fertility assurance through polyandry in the Canadian Journal of Zoology. These works reflect her interests in evolutionary genetics, behavioral ecology, and reproductive biology.

- 2020 Outstanding Undergraduate Science Teaching Award (Society for College Science Teaching)
Dr. Pai teaches courses spanning biological populations, evolution, ecology, and research methods. She leads NSF-funded initiatives like the "Center for Advancing Research Impact on Society Renewal" ($9.1M, 2023-2028) and has held leadership roles including co-director of Spelman’s Teaching Resources and Research Center and interim vice provost for faculty.
