Dr. Adith Mohan is a consultant neuropsychiatrist at the Neuropsychiatric Institute (NPI), Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney, Australia. He serves as a Research Fellow with the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) and holds the position of Senior Lecturer within the School of Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Dr. Mohan is actively involved in the Section of Neuropsychiatry (SoN) of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, representing New South Wales as the jurisdictional representative and contributing to the development of a competency-based training curriculum for Neuropsychiatry.
Dr. Mohan's research spans multiple domains including novel pharmacological interventions in neuropsychiatry, the study of human brain transcriptome changes related to ageing, and therapeutic neuromodulation in neuropsychiatric disorders. His PhD research at UNSW focuses on gene expression across the lifespan to identify risk factors for age-related brain diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease. He currently leads a clinical trial investigating transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in mild cognitive impairment and participates in studies examining deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Tourette syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder. His work bridges neuroscience, psychiatry, and clinical practice to develop better diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for patients.
Dr. Mohan's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on neuropsychiatric disorders, particularly functional neurological disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and schizophrenia. His work combines clinical practice with translational research, exploring both pharmacological and neuromodulation-based interventions. A significant portion of his research involves collaborative work with Professor Perminder Sachdev and other colleagues at CHeBA, addressing critical questions in brain ageing and mental health service delivery.
Dr. Mohan is affiliated with the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) at UNSW, working alongside Co-Directors Professor Perminder Sachdev and Professor Henry Brodaty. He collaborates with various researchers across multiple studies, particularly in the areas of brain ageing, neuropsychiatry, and therapeutic interventions. His clinical work at the Neuropsychiatric Institute provides the foundation for his research questions, ensuring his work remains relevant to patient care and clinical practice.
