Adeyinka Taiwo, MBBS, MSc, FRCP, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Iowa. Her research focuses on the intersection of type 1 diabetes (T1D) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), addressing a critical gap in understanding liver complications in T1D patients.
Taiwo's groundbreaking pilot study, published in Frontiers in Endocrinology, was the first to use metabolomic and lipidomic analyses to explore MASLD pathogenesis in T1D. Her work revealed elevated levels of aromatic acids, ceramides, and triglycerides in T1D patients with MASLD, aligning with T2D/MASLD findings but highlighting unique differences in branched-chain amino acids.
She secured a
- two-year NIH K12 grant (2024, $150,000)
Taiwo’s advocacy for T1D patients excluded from treatment trials underscores her commitment to patient-centered research and clinical innovation.
