Adela Carlos Ríos is a Lecturer II in Quechua Language at the University of Michigan's Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS). She holds a Bachelor's degree in Education (Biology/Ecology) from Universidad Nacional San Antonio Abad del Cusco (2007), a Master’s in Environmental Studies (Environmental Anthropology, 2012), and a Master’s in International Studies (Latin American Resource Management, 2013). Her Quechua short story “Aya umamanta” earned an honorable mention in the Interregional Culture Prize, propelling her academic journey to Michigan.
Her teaching integrates ethnobotany, cultural exchange, and storytelling, reflecting her roots in Peru’s Cusco region and her commitment to preserving Indigenous knowledge. She resides in Ann Arbor and contributes to LACS’s Quechua language program.
