Adel Alhalawani

Dr. Adel Alhalawani is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Toronto Metropolitan University (2017), an M.Sc.Eng. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Malaya (2013), and a B.Eng. in Biomedical Engineering from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (2010). His research focuses on bio-glass-based adhesives for orthopedic and dental applications, emphasizing materials science and biomechanical analysis.

His teaching interests include engineering design, biomechanics, statics, mechanics of materials, biomaterials, and manufacturing design. He has received notable awards such as the Dr. Jacob and Helen Friedman Research Excellence Award (2016) and the EXL-ITL Faculty Fellowship Award (2019).

His recent publications highlight advancements in bioadhesive development for sternal fixation, bone cement properties, and antimicrobial materials. Key works include in vivo studies on glass-based adhesives (2021) and biomechanical analyses of novel adhesives for orthopedic applications (2019–2020). His research also explores material synthesis techniques like sol-gel processing and electrospinning.

Dr. Alhalawani actively participates in conferences such as the International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and the World Biomaterials Congress, presenting on topics like antibacterial cements and orthopedic adhesive innovations. His work bridges biomedical engineering with clinical applications, aiming to improve surgical outcomes through material innovation.
