Dr. Gary Bledsoe is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Saint Louis University. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from The University of Memphis, an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Memphis, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology from the University of Tennessee.
His research focuses on orthopaedic biomechanics, trauma biomechanics, tissue engineering, and biomaterials. His lab, the Interfacial Biomaterials/Biomechanics Lab, investigates healing phenomena at tissue-material interfaces. Key projects include optimizing fracture fixation hardware, biomaterial interactions for spinal discs, and biomechanical modeling of orthopedic injuries.
Dr. Bledsoe’s publications span orthopaedic trauma, biomaterials, and implant design, with recent work on hydrogel therapies, fracture stabilization techniques, and pelvic injury fixation. He holds patents on metal alloy phase transformation control and intramedullary nail devices.
His academic contributions include teaching in materials science and biomaterials sequences. He actively collaborates with clinicians and engineers to bridge biomechanical research with clinical applications.
