Dr. Adebisi Alade is an Assistant Professor and Undergraduate Advisor in the Department of History at the University of Victoria. Born and raised in Nigeria, he holds a PhD in African History from McMaster University (2022) and a first-class BA in History and International Studies from Adekunle Ajasin University. His scholarly focus examines colonial public health programs, environmental history, and African agency during colonial rule.
His research interests include:
- Negotiations of colonial public health initiatives
- Development of sanitary technologies and health infrastructures
- Subaltern politics in colonial Africa
- Climate change impacts on historical development
Dr. Alade is currently transforming his doctoral research into a book analyzing how Africans shaped colonial public health programs targeting 'environmentally responsible subjects.' His next project explores sanitary technologies and power dynamics in health infrastructure development.
