Adam de Havenon, MD, MSCI is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Yale School of Medicine specializing in vascular neurology. He leads the de Havenon Lab which focuses on reducing stroke risk, preventing recurrent strokes, and improving post-stroke recovery outcomes. His clinical practice includes evaluating and treating acute strokes in hospital and emergency settings, as well as providing outpatient stroke consultations.
Dr. de Havenon earned his BA in American Studies from Yale University in 2001, followed by his MD from Brown Medical School in 2009. He completed neurology residency at the University of Utah in 2013 and a vascular neurology fellowship at University of Washington in 2014. In 2021, he completed a Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation degree. After serving as faculty at the University of Utah from 2014-2021, he returned to Yale in late 2021.
His research spans intracranial atherosclerosis, blood pressure variability, vascular cognitive impairment, white matter hyperintensity, and advanced neuroimaging techniques. Dr. de Havenon has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles and his work focuses on bridging basic science of stroke research with human implementation. His publications from 2024-2025 demonstrate strong emphasis on stroke risk prediction, vascular risk factor management, neuroimaging techniques, and health disparities in stroke outcomes.
Dr. de Havenon has secured competitive grant funding including K23, R01, and UG3/UH3 awards from NIH/NINDS. He serves as principal investigator for the BP-VISO study and StrokeNet study CAPTIVA-MRI. His mentees have received prestigious awards including NIH NRS training grants and American Academy of Neurology Medical Student Research Scholarships.
He established the de Havenon Lab first at his prior institution and then at Yale in 2022, where it continues to expand its footprint in cerebrovascular research and training the next generation of researchers. The lab's mission is to advance research that benefits stroke patients while addressing gaps and disparities in stroke prevention and care.
