Adam Rothman

Adam Rothman is a Professor and Chair of the Department of History at Georgetown University, where he also directs the Center for the Study of Slavery and Its Legacies. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University and specializes in U.S. history (Revolution to Civil War era), Atlantic world slavery, and memory studies. His research bridges institutional history, legal frameworks of slavery, and transnational dynamics.

Key roles include co-editing Facing Georgetown's History (2021), curating the Georgetown Slavery Archive, and serving on the University's Working Group on Slavery, Memory, and Reconciliation. He has been recognized with major awards including the President's Award for Distinguished Scholar-Teachers (2024) and the Jefferson Davis Book Award (2015).
