Dr. Adam M. Volungis is an Associate Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology at Assumption University, specifically within the D'Amour College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He maintains an active presence in teaching, research, and clinical practice, with his office located in Kennedy Memorial Hall, Room 134.
Dr. Volungis earned his B.A. in Psychology from Saint Anselm College (2001), followed by an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Assumption College (2003), and completed his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Indiana University (2011). His doctoral dissertation focused on "School Size & Youth Violence: Potential Mediating & Moderating Role of School Connectedness. "
His research program centers on prevention of school violence, suicide prevention in adolescents, college student mental health and smartphone dependency, enhancing cognitive-behavioral therapy with technology, and youth internalizing/externalizing disorders. His scholarly work demonstrates consistent productivity across these interconnected domains, with recent publications examining mediators of college student well-being, smartphone addiction correlates, and suicide prevention implementation in schools.
Dr. Volungis has authored two significant books: "Becoming a Mental Health Counselor: A Guide to Career Development and Professional Identity" (2021), which serves students pursuing mental health careers, and "Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy: Theory into Practice" (2018), praised as "the most practical book available for learning the most common CBT skills" featuring therapist-client vignettes and supplemental materials.
As a counseling psychologist, he maintains clinical experience across psychiatric, residential, and outpatient settings serving youth, families, and adults, while also operating an active private practice providing cognitive-behavioral therapy.
