Adam Kemezis is a Professor in the Department of History, Classics, & Religion at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Arts. His research focuses on Roman historiography, political culture, and literary texts from the 2nd to 5th centuries CE. He is the managing editor and book reviews editor of Histos, an open-access journal specializing in ancient historiography.
His research explores works by authors like Cassius Dio, Philostratus, and Tacitus, addressing broader questions about Roman monarchy and imperial political culture. Recent projects include a monograph on the Historia Augusta and co-editing The Intellectual Climate of Cassius Dio. He has published over 20 articles and a monograph (2014).
Teaching interests include Roman history, classical mythology, and Latin/Greek literature. Courses span introductory to advanced topics like Lucian, Latin Writings on Northern 'Barbarians', and Race, Class and Identity in Imperial Rome. He advises graduate students on Roman history and literature.
