Adam Jones is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, affiliated with the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. His research focuses on genocide studies, gender and international relations, and structural violence. Jones is the author of the widely used textbook Genocide: A Comprehensive Introduction and has contributed extensively to academic discourse through his publications on genocide prevention, gendercide, and human rights policy. He holds a PhD from UBC and a postdoctoral fellowship from Yale University's Genocide Studies Program.
Education: B.A. (History/International Relations) from UBC, M.A. (Political Science) from McGill University, and Ph.D. (Political Science) from UBC. Recognitions include the University of British Columbia Okanagan Teacher’s Honour Roll (multiple years) and inclusion in Fifty Key Thinkers on the Holocaust and Genocide.
Research interests span genocide case studies, gender-based violence, and international law. He serves as Executive Director of Gendercide Watch and Senior Book Review Editor for the Journal of Genocide Research. Jones is also an accomplished photographer, with works documenting global cultures and conflict zones.
His work bridges academia and activism, emphasizing the practical implications of genocide studies for policy and human rights advocacy. Jones has consulted for international organizations like the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and delivered keynotes globally on genocide and gender issues.
