Adam Hickenbotham, OD, MPH, PhD is the Founding Dean of the College of Optometric Medicine and currently holds the rank of Professor. He has held leadership roles including Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Chief of Surgery, and Assistant Dean for Research, alongside founding the ophthalmic medical device company ThruFocus Optics.
Education:
- Doctorate in Optometry from University of California, Berkeley
- Master’s in Public Health from University of California, Berkeley
- PhD in Bioengineering from University of California, Berkeley
- Graduate of Harvard Medical School’s Surgical Leadership Program
- Completed Clinical Research Conduct and Management Program at University of California, Berkeley
His research focuses on presbyopia correction, laser surgery, virtual reality visual ergonomics, and medical device development. He has pioneered a new laser surgical procedure for presbyopia currently undergoing clinical trials and contributed to understanding optical aberrations, intraocular pressure dynamics, and visual acuity optimization.
His recent publications highlight trends in vision science, ophthalmic technology, and virtual reality applications, with a focus on intraocular pressure disparities, image quality metrics, and laser-based interventions.
