Dr. Adam Crawford is a Lecturer at Loughborough University with a dual focus on Engineering Education and Coastal Engineering. He completed his part-time PhD at the University of Plymouth (1998) on wave loading on vertical coastal structures.
- University of Nottingham: BSc in Pure and Applied Physics (1991)
- University of Southampton: MSc in Physical Oceanography (1992)
His research spans two eras: early work in Coastal Engineering (wave impact analysis, breakwater design) and later contributions to Engineering Education (open educational resources, pedagogical innovation, student retention strategies). Recent publications emphasize curriculum development, e-learning tools, and mathematics education in engineering.
From 1998–2005, he managed the Engineering Education Centre at Loughborough University and led nationally funded projects like FDTL Balance and ESF Multi-skills. Between 2005–2011, he directed the Engineering Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, funded by HEFCE, and served on steering committees for national initiatives like the Higher Education Academy Engineering Subject Centre.
- Awarded funding for the Engineering Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning by HEFCE (2005–2011)
As Head of Operations since 2011, he coordinates administrative, technical, and academic support functions. His pedagogical research includes designing teaching aids, validating team assessments, and fostering sustainable e-learning environments.
