Dr. Adam Carlton is a Research Fellow in the School of Biosciences at the University of Sheffield, UK. His research focuses on understanding brainstem feedback mechanisms in the mammalian inner ear, employing electrophysiology, immunolabelling, and biochemistry. He investigates how this feedback modulates cochlear activity for noise protection, hearing in complex environments, and sound localization across an organism's lifespan. His current role (2024–present) follows a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position (2021–2024) and a D.Phil. in Biomedical Science (2017–2021) at the same institution.
Teaching responsibilities include lectures for BMS335 Sensory Neuroscience and postgraduate tutoring. Professional activities include serving on the RNID Flexi-Grant Review Panel and as a Review Editor for Frontiers in Molecular Neuroscience.
His Carlton Lab explores feedback modulation in hearing and its adaptations during aging or hearing loss. No specific grants or lab members are detailed here, but his work aligns with broader initiatives in auditory neuroscience.
