Adam Barrows

Adam Barrows is a Professor in the Department of English at Carleton University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He holds a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an M.A. from Northern Arizona University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. His interdisciplinary research examines temporal experiences in literature through frameworks including postcolonial studies, disability theory, and ecological humanities.

Barrows' work explores:

• Representations of time in 20th-century global literature
• Intersections of temporality with disability, colonialism, and environmental crises
• Creative applications of philosophical time concepts in literary analysis

His publications demonstrate sustained engagement with temporal theory across monographs, peer-reviewed articles, and creative works. Recent scholarship focuses on clockwork mechanization, nonhuman temporality, and the temporal dimensions of giftedness, often blending literary criticism with cultural theory.
