Abubakar Sani Sule is a Professor of African Archaeology at Ahmadu Bello University (Nigeria) and a British Academy Global Professor at the Sainsbury Research Unit for the Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas (UEA). He leads a major research project analyzing West African communities through museum collections, focusing on Nigerian archaeological and ethnographic materials.

His research explores socio-economic and political developments in West Africa over the last millennium, with special attention to Savannah region settlement landscapes, earthen architecture, and museum stakeholder engagement. Key interests include the impact of Borno and Hausa states on cultural processes, as well as heritage preservation strategies.
His monograph Imprints of the Archaeology of Northern Nigeria (2021) applies frontier theory to analyze cultural dynamics in the region. Current projects include a British Academy-funded initiative (2024–2028) examining understudied museum collections from Nigerian sites.

He holds a PhD in African Archaeology from the University of East Anglia (2013), MA in History from University of Maiduguri (2007), and BA from Ahmadu Bello University (1997). His work bridges archaeology, museum practice, and community engagement to advance interdisciplinary heritage studies.
