Dr. Abram Steen is an Assistant Professor of English at Crandall University, where he has been a faculty member since 2006. He holds a PhD in English Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2007), following an MA and BA from Calvin College. His research focuses on early modern poetry/prose, Shakespeare, post-Reformation English history, and liturgical texts like the Book of Common Prayer. He is currently completing a book exploring literary and liturgical representations of death in post-Reformation England.
Dr. Steen has been recognized with prestigious awards including the Steeves Award for Excellence in Teaching (2012, 2019, 2023) and the Pew Younger Scholars Fellowship (1997-1998, 2001-2003). His scholarship bridges literary analysis with religious and historical contexts, often examining how death, memory, and reform shaped early modern texts.
