Abraham Mathew, MD, is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Pennsylvania State University and a member of the Penn State Cancer Institute. His research focuses on advanced endoscopic techniques, pancreatic disorders, and clinical trials. Notably, he led a National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases-funded project (2010–2013) investigating lidocaine for post-ERCP pancreatitis prevention. His work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals through advancements in medical care.
Research Interests: Dr. Mathew’s expertise includes natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided interventions, and managing malignant conditions like bowel obstruction. Recent studies involve multicenter trials on EUS-guided gastroenterostomy and novel device applications.
Grants & Awards: In 2024, he received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. His research has produced 69+ publications, with key contributions in Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and others.
