Dr. Abinash Bhattachan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and the Environment at Texas Tech University. His research focuses on the effects of climate change and land-use change on dryland, coastal, and urban systems, combining field experiments, geospatial data analysis, and socioeconomic factors to develop actionable, policy-relevant solutions. He holds a BS in Watershed Science and Earth Systems from Utah State University, an MS in Environmental Sciences from Indiana University Bloomington, and a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia.
Research Interests: Climate Change Impacts, Land-Use Dynamics, Dryland Ecosystems, Coastal Management, Urban Environmental Science, and Geospatial Analysis. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to address environmental challenges, particularly in marginalized communities.
Recent Research Trends: Dr. Bhattachan’s articles highlight climate-driven shifts in disease dynamics (e.g., coccidioidomycosis), dust-climate interactions, and coastal resilience. He explores how environmental policies can mitigate risks from extreme weather, saltwater intrusion, and desertification. His studies bridge natural and social sciences, emphasizing community engagement in decision-making.
Affiliations & Teaching: He teaches GEOG 5304 (Advanced Physical Geography) and GEOG 3310 (Environmental Change). His lab is part of Texas Tech’s Department of Geosciences, fostering collaborations on climate adaptation and sustainable land management.
