Abigail Lanford is a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Behavioral Sciences at Flagler College and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She is the founder and owner of Ataraxia Counseling, a private group practice in St. Augustine providing trauma-informed care to adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
Her educational background:
- Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Flagler College (2020)
- Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Marriage and Family Counseling from Jacksonville University (2023)
Ms. Lanford specializes in the following areas:

Her clinical training includes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Level 1 Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and fire service cultural competency training. She integrates multicultural, feminist, humanistic, and strengths-based frameworks into her teaching and therapy, with professional interests spanning counselor education, trauma theory, gender and identity development, and sociopolitical impacts on mental health.
Ataraxia Counseling, founded in early 2024, has expanded into a group practice with five additional contractors. It offers individual and couples therapy, EMDR therapy, psychiatric care, medication management, and trauma-informed yoga. She also contracts with the Elbow Tree Cooperative to support first responder resilience in St. John’s County through counseling for fire rescue personnel and their families.
