Abigail Hilson is a researcher and academic affiliated with the Centre for Critical and Historical Research on Organisation and Society at Aston University, UK. She holds a PhD in Accounting from Aston University, an MBA from the Schulich School of Business (York University, Canada), and a BA in Sociology with Political Science from the University of Ghana. Her research focuses on corporate social responsibility (CSR), sustainability accounting, and the socio-economic impacts of extractive industries in Sub-Saharan Africa. She has served as Programme Director for the BSc Accounting and Finance program and contributes to editorial roles at journals like Social Sciences and Humanities Open and The Extractive Industries and Society Journal.
Abigail’s work addresses geopolitical risks in African business environments, accounting’s role in development, and formalization of informal sectors. Her projects include initiatives promoting female entrepreneurship in mineral industries and empowering SMEs through basic accounting education. She has received awards such as the Choice Outstanding Academic Title 2017 and a Teaching Prize in 2014. Her research activities span consultancy with oil/gas firms and NGOs, and she has led projects funded by the British Academy and the International Growth Centre.
