معرفی
Abel Auer is a Professor for Introduction to Artistic Working Methods (Painting) at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK). Born in Munich and raised in Stuttgart, he has been active as an artist/maler in Hamburg since his studies under Werner Büttner and Hans-Joachim Lenger at the HFBK. His work critiques 20th-century art historiography through engagements with Folk Art, 1960s Counter Culture, and early Modernist Symbolism. A co-founder of the artist group Akademie Isotrop, he collaborates extensively with other artists to create spaces beyond institutional control. His practice extends to international exhibitions (primarily in England/Belgium), art writing for catalogs/online platforms, album cover design, music videos, and occasional curation.
Notable activities include participation in the 'Cine*Ami*es' film symposium celebrating 60 years of film education at HFBK, contributions to exhibitions like 'The New Woman' (highlighting female artists/designers from HFBK's predecessor institution), and involvement in initiatives like the 'Redesign Democracy' ballot box competition. He maintains active teaching roles in the Painting/Drawing department and contributes to interdisciplinary projects such as the 'Archives of the Body' research program.
