Abdulmotaleb El Saddik is a Distinguished Professor and University Research Chair in Ambient Interactive Media and Applications at the University of Ottawa's School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He directs the Multimedia Communications Research Laboratory (MCRLab) and the Distributed & Collaborative Virtual Environments Research Laboratory (DISCOVER). His research focuses on haptic systems, multimedia security, and ambient intelligence. He has authored over 350 publications, secured $17M in research grants, and supervised over 100 researchers.
El Saddik holds IEEE Fellow status (2009) and multiple prestigious awards, including the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Award (2007) and the George S. Glinski Award (2012). He has served as editor for ACM and IEEE journals, chaired over 30 international conferences, and pioneered work in haptics, service-oriented architectures, and collaborative environments. His labs develop cutting-edge solutions for immersive VR, tele-surveillance, and AI-driven systems.
Notable contributions include advancements in tactile communication, cybersecurity frameworks, and the integration of digital twins in healthcare. His work bridges academia and industry, with applications in consumer electronics, robotics, and smart cities.
