Abdullah Kesvelioglu is a PhD student in Politics and International Relations at the University of Edinburgh's School of Social and Political Science, Department of Politics and International Relations. He also serves as a Tutor, teaching courses such as Comparative Politics in a Globalized World and Politics in a Changing World. His research focuses on social identity theory and the role of status in great power politics, particularly Russia's interactions with Western-led peacebuilding regimes in the Western Balkans. Supervised by Professor Luke March and Dr. Katarzyna Kaczmarska, his work examines Russia’s status concerns vis-à-vis the U.S. and Europe.
Abdullah holds an MSc in Security Studies from University College London (2018) and a BA in Political Science and Public Administration from Marmara University, Turkey (2016). He has research experience as a Researcher at TRT World Research Centre in İstanbul and London (2017–2020), contributing to reports on great power competition and post-conflict analysis.
His publications include an edited book Globalisation in Retreat: Risks and Opportunities (2019) and reports analyzing the Western Balkans and the Bosnian War’s legacy.
