Abby Allen

Abby Allen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She earned her Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Missouri in 2016, an M.Ed. in Education Policy from Harvard University, an M.A. in Communication Sciences & Disorders from Saint Louis University, and a B.S. in Speech & Hearing Science from the University of Illinois.

• Research Interests: early writing assessment and intervention, curriculum-based measurement (CBM), data-based individualization, learning disabilities, and the application of assistive technology in special education.
• Scientific Awards: Recipient of the Early Career Research and Mentoring Grant (R324B200016) from the Institute of Educational Sciences.
• Key Collaborations: Co-authored studies with researchers at Clemson University, University of Nevada Las Vegas, and other institutions, focusing on topics such as mixed-reality simulation for teacher training and smartphone-based interventions for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
• Advising: Accepting new graduate advisees in special education.
