Dr. Abbas Ghasemi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Industrial, and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on computational and experimental fluid dynamics with applications in health and sustainability. He holds a PhD from the University of Waterloo (2019), and degrees from the University of Tabriz (BSc 2005, MSc 2008) and University of Windsor (MASc 2012).
- Education:
- BSc, University of Tabriz (2005)
- MSc, University of Tabriz (2008)
- MASc, University of Windsor (2012)
- PhD, University of Waterloo (2019)
Research interests include vortex dynamics, multiphase flows, pathogen transport modeling, and AI-driven epidemiology frameworks. His work bridges fluid physics with public health challenges, such as disease transmission modeling for mass gatherings (e.g., FIFA World Cup studies). He has published in Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Physics of Fluids, and Scientific Reports.
Key achievements include NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowships (2021), a CFD Society of Canada award (2016), and impactful collaborations with MIT and the Fields Institute. His mission is to apply thermo-fluid dynamics principles to improve human health and environmental sustainability.
- Awards & Recognition:
