Aarthi Janakiraman is an Assistant Professor of Preservation and Urbanism at Tulane University. Her work focuses on the spatial politics of heritage conservation, particularly examining the role of World Heritage sites in cities of the Global South and postcolonial societies in the Indian Ocean Region. She bridges urban studies, international development, and critical heritage studies to explore how heritage conservation intersects with equity and spatial justice.
