Aaron McComas

Aaron McComas is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of Animation and Visual Effects at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Atlanta, GA. He holds an M.F.A. in Design and Technology from The New School and a B.A. in Art from Gonzaga University.

With over two decades of industry experience, McComas specializes in visual effects and animation for feature films, having worked at Rhythm & Hues, Sony Imageworks, DreamWorks Animation, and Digital Domain. His technical contributions include fluid simulation methodologies for Spider-Man 2, optimization of web effects pipelines for Spider-Man 3, and pioneering work on water, snow, and explosion effects for films like Moana and Zootopia. He has also developed internal tools and databases to enhance production efficiency.

McComas has been a member of the International Animated Film Society (ASIFA) and the Visual Effects Society (VES). His career spans leadership roles in effects technical direction and art direction, with a focus on integrating complex simulations into cinematic storytelling.
