Dr. Aaron Lane is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law at RMIT University, Australia, and holds concurrent roles as a Senior Fellow at The George Washington University's GW Competition & Innovation Lab and Honorary Research Associate at University College London's UCL Centre for Blockchain Technologies. He is also a practicing barrister at the Victorian Bar and previously served as Special Counsel at Duxton Hill. His expertise lies in the intersection of regulation and innovation, particularly blockchain, cryptocurrency, and AI. Dr. Lane has advised on parliamentary inquiries, contributed to U.S. Supreme Court briefs, and focuses on competition law, public administration, and the economics of technological innovation.
Research interests include blockchain governance, legal frameworks for decentralized technologies, and the economic implications of regulatory policies. He actively supervises PhD students in areas like transnational AI regulation and blockchain governance. He is affiliated with RMIT Blockchain Innovation Hub and advocates for UN Sustainable Development Goals related to innovation (Goal 9), economic growth (Goal 8), and justice (Goal 16).
Dr. Lane's non-academic roles include memberships in the Victorian Bar's CPD Committee and the Law Council of Australia's Digital Commerce Committee. His scholarship bridges legal theory, economic analysis, and technological practice, with a focus on fostering innovation through adaptive regulatory frameworks.
