Aaron K. Kerr serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Philosophy/Theology Department at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania. His academic work bridges philosophical inquiry with theological reflection, focusing particularly on contemporary ethical challenges at the intersection of technology, environment, and religious thought.
Dr. Kerr's educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Philosophical Theology from Duquesne University (2007)
- Master of Theological Studies from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (1996)
- Master of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (1995)
- Bachelor of Arts from Otterbein College (1991)
His research interests center on environmental ethics, the philosophical implications of technology, and Catholic social thought. Dr. Kerr approaches each day in class as 'a new opportunity to guide students into this process of integration' toward 'a well-reasoned existence' that 'leads to well-being and integrity.' During the pandemic, he innovated by teaching environmental ethics at the Gannon Good Will Garden, a student-led initiative providing fresh produce to the community, demonstrating practical application of philosophical inquiry.
Dr. Kerr's publications reveal consistent engagement with thinkers like Albert Borgmann and Thomas Merton, examining how contemplative traditions might inform our relationship with technology and nature. His recent work shows increasing attention to environmental crisis response, as reflected in his current book project about nature and communication. His scholarship spans journal articles, book reviews for CHOICE publications, and conference presentations addressing digital culture's implications for religious thought and community-based ethical practices.
Dr. Kerr maintains an active scholarly presence through the GU Philosophy Facebook page and continues to contribute to academic discourse on environmental ethics, technology, and religious thought, with publications as recent as 2021.
