Aaron Doyle is a Professor at the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Carleton University in Ottawa. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of British Columbia, with prior degrees from the University of Victoria (B.A.) and the University of Toronto (M.A. in Criminology). His work focuses on critical criminology, media-criminal justice relations, surveillance studies, and risk governance. He has held a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at Simon Fraser University and joined Carleton in 2002.
Research interests include:
- Prison systems and carceral accountability
- Media's role in shaping criminal justice narratives
- Risk and insurance as governance mechanisms
- Surveillance technologies and societal impacts
- Social movements and political resistance
His recent work critiques institutional practices around risk assessment, incarceration, and surveillance while exploring ethical dimensions of insurance systems and climate policy. He has advised graduate students in criminology and sociology since 2002.
Awards: Recipient of the SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship (2000-2002).
