Dr Aaron D. Hornkohl is a University Associate Professor in Hebrew at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Cambridge, and a Fellow of Girton College. He coordinates outreach initiatives and teaches courses in ancient/modern Hebrew literature, language, and Middle Eastern culture.
- Education: BA in Social Science (Biola University), MA in Bible and Its World (Rothberg International School, Hebrew University of Jerusalem), PhD in Hebrew Language History (Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 2012)
Research Focus: Ancient Hebrew philology, linguistic periodization, exegesis, and discourse analysis. His work examines diachronic linguistic developments in Biblical Hebrew, particularly through the lens of the Book of Jeremiah and Dead Sea Scrolls.
Recent Publications (2024-2014): Focus on Hebrew language evolution, Tiberian reading traditions, Masoretic textual analysis, and comparative studies between Tiberian and Qumran Hebrew. Key themes include orthographic changes, tense-aspect-mood systems, and chronological stratification of Biblical texts.
Collaborative Projects: Co-Investigator on AHRC-funded critical edition of Mishna MS Kaufmann. Co-organizer of the Sutton Trust Summer School in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (2016).
