Aaron Burton

Aaron Burton is a Lecturer in Communication and Media at the University of Wollongong since 2020, previously holding a Media Arts Lecturer position there (2018–2019). He completed his PhD in Media Arts at the University of New South Wales (2014).

Research Focus

His practice-based research spans

• personal documentary film
• experimental ethnography
• Anthropocene representation
• unmanned imaging technologies

with notable works like My Mother's Village (2015) and Sunset Ethnography (2014, with Stephen Muecke & Michael Taussig).

Recent Publications

Current projects examine visual representations of environmental crises using drone/GPS/satellite imagery. His 2020 Unmanned Imaging of the Anthropocene explores non-anthropocentric storytelling through transdisciplinary methods.
