Dr. Aaqil Rifai is a Chancellor's Research Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), School of Biomedical Engineering, and an Honorary Research Associate at RMIT University. He holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from RMIT University (2020) and has conducted postdoctoral research at RMIT and Deakin University, where he secured the prestigious Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (2021–2024). His research focuses on biomaterials and tissue engineering, particularly in developing advanced materials for biomedical applications such as bone regeneration, hydrogels, and antimicrobial surfaces.
Dr. Rifai’s work includes pioneering projects like diamond-coated titanium scaffolds, self-assembled peptide hydrogels, and organoid models for bone and cartilage tissue engineering. He has secured over $900,000 in research funding and co-supervises three PhD students. His contributions have been recognized through media coverage and peer-reviewed publications, with over 70 citations to date.
