Dr. Rizhi Wang is a Professor in the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC), cross-appointed with the School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) and holds the Canada Research Chair. His research focuses on biomaterials, biomechanics, and biomimetics, with affiliations to UBC's Faculty of Applied Science and Faculty of Medicine.
Education: B.Eng from Zhejiang University, M.A.Sc and Ph.D from Harbin Institute of Technology, and is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng). His research explores bioactive surface designs for implants, bone mechanics at nanoscale, and bio-inspired materials inspired by natural structures like nacre and biological interfaces.
Research Themes:
- Biomaterials: Surface engineering for implants, wear-resistant coatings, and bioactive composites.
- Biomechanics: Fracture mechanisms of bone/teeth, nanocomposite structure-function relationships.
