Aamina Ahmad is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Minnesota's College of Liberal Arts, where she teaches in the Creative Writing Program. She joined the university in fall 2022 after serving as Li-shen Visiting Writer at Mills College. Ahmad holds an MFA in fiction from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and received a Stegner Fellowship from Stanford University.
Her research explores themes of class, institutional injustice, and cultural identity through fiction and drama. She specializes in postcolonial narratives that examine the intersection of personal tragedy and political turmoil, with a focus on South Asian diaspora experiences.
Ahmad's literary output includes her acclaimed debut novel examining social hierarchies in Pakistan, which has received multiple international awards. Her creative works consistently engage with complex social issues through nuanced character development.
