Aakanksha Singhvi is an Associate Professor in the Basic Sciences Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Her research focuses on understanding the role of glial cells in neural function and disease, particularly in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. She holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and conducted postdoctoral research at The Rockefeller University.
Education: PhD in Developmental Neurobiology (UC Berkeley), Postdoctoral training in Glia-Neuron Interactions (Rockefeller University), MSc in Biological Sciences (National Center for Biological Sciences, India), and a Biochemistry undergraduate degree from St. Xavier’s College, Gujarat University.
Research interests include molecular mechanisms of glia-neuron interactions, glial roles in sensory perception, neurodegeneration, and aging. Her lab has discovered glial pruning of neuronal endings, a process linked to epilepsy and dementia.
Publications focus on glial biology in C. elegans, emphasizing their role in neural circuit architecture and disease. Notable awards include the Klingenstein-Simons Fellowship in Neuroscience.
Labs and teams: The Singhvi Lab collaborates across disciplines, with a focus on glial heterogeneity and neurodegenerative disease mechanisms. Current lab members include postdocs, graduate students, and technicians.
