Dr. A.L. (At) Hof is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Groningen, specializing in Human Movement Science with a focus on Biomechanics. He serves as Head of the Laboratory for Human Movement Analysis at UMCG and holds additional roles as secretary/treasurer of the Society of Movement Analysis Laboratories in the Low Lands (SMALLL).
Dr. Hof's research spans multiple disciplines including Biomechanics, Neuroscience, and Rehabilitation Engineering. His work primarily focuses on human movement, balance control, gait analysis, and prosthetics. Key research areas include:
- Analysis of human walking and balance mechanisms
- Responses of muscles to balance perturbations
- Prosthetic limb control and stability
- Biomechanical modeling of human movement
- Scaling and normalization techniques in movement analysis
Dr. Hof's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on understanding the biomechanics of human movement, particularly in relation to balance control and gait stability. His work spans both fundamental biomechanical principles and applied clinical research, with significant contributions to rehabilitation engineering and prosthetics. A substantial portion of his research investigates how humans maintain stability during walking, with particular attention to mediolateral balance control and responses to perturbations.
Dr. Hof leads the Laboratory for Human Movement Analysis at UMCG, where his team conducts research on human movement biomechanics, balance control, and prosthetic applications. His laboratory serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research connecting engineering principles with clinical applications in movement science.
