A.D. Boynton, II, PhD [he/they], serves as a Lecturer in the Department of English within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Kansas. Their teaching portfolio includes composition, American literature, science fiction, African American culture, and specialized workshops on poetry, gender/racial equity, and pedagogy.
Boynton's research spans African American literature, science fiction studies, and creative writing, with particular emphasis on intersectional identity frameworks. As Managing Editor of the Journal of Science Fiction and creator of the digital project 4:44 Syllabus, they actively bridge academic scholarship with community engagement through local arts initiatives like B.L.A.C.K. Lawrence.
As an award-winning creative practitioner, Boynton published the poetry chapbook Witness (2023) with the Spencer Museum of Art and has directed theatrical and musical productions.
